I'm hoping you all have a good idea on how to get the barrel of my ar nice and clean.
FIgure I was teaching a friend of mine to shoot on it, and the moment i step away to pick up brass he pretty much dumped a whole mag. (yeah stupid I know, he's not touching it again) Anyhow, I cant seem to get the crud out of the barrel now. I cleaned it extremely diligently the next morning, and no matter what i do, patches keep coming through dirty. The process I followed is: 1. Scrubbed with nylon brush 20x 2. Soaked in Break Free Bore Foam for 15 minutes 3. Scrubbed with bronze brush 20x 4. Patched dry 5. Barnes fp-10 patches 6. scrubed 5x 7. patched dry 8. light clp patch Normally this is not my usual cleaning regimen, but because I cant seem to get it clean i went hardcore on it. Is there anything I am missing or any ideas worth trying? The patches keep coming out dirty regardless of what i do. |

Your barrel is never going to be spotless. And dumping the mag isn't "stupid." Any quality AR should be able to handle it without issues.
I clean my bores with Blue Wonder gel and a bronze brush, let it soak, then run patches through. Then I follow with a patch lightly soaked with FP-10. Like I said, stop worrying about getting the bore spotless. It's not gonna happen. Oh, and make sure you're getting your chamber and locking lug recesses clean. You do have a chamber brush, right? |

Oddly enough i was recommended blue wonder at work so i picked some up. (figure i work a gun counter so that was easy) I'm going to give it a try tomorrow night probably. I have heard lots of good things about it.
I do have a bore brush that i use regularly along with qtips and a scraper for the recesses. Thanks again for the help guys |

1.soaked patch w/ shooters choice or other quality powder solvent to get crud wet
2.4 strokes with brush to break up crud 3. soaked patches until they are MOSTLY clean 4. dry patches until they are sort of clean. A few smudges/discoloration is OK. Going crazy until you get a perfectly clean patch is a waste of time, equipment, and causes more wear on your gun, and therefor is counterproductive. Dont worry about copper fouling in a chrome lined barell. In the army barrels fail due to throat erosion long before the lands are shot out- the fact is, most coded out guns in my unit still group. |
