I decided to fire several hundred rounds through my Bushmaster without cleaning, just an occasional drop of oil on the BCG. Today I broke it down for cleaning, and boy, was it filthy. It looked like someone had just spilled black paint inside the receiver.
The strange thing, though, is that the bore was pretty clean. I ran several patches through, and made several passes with a brush, but really didn't get any discoloration on the patches. I have gotten more dirt out of a cleaned barrel. |

This is normal AR operation. The chromed bore and chamber will look hardly fired, but since the Stoner system is direct gas, the BCG will be dirty as hell. I understand this, but I'm saying that the bore is cleaner than it normally is after firing just a few rounds. |
