in my gun cabinet with my AR,Saiga, and Winchester I have an old hand me down Stevenson shotgun, and it has some rust on it, will storing it with my prize rifles cause them to rust too? Also, I have the hard case it was stored in, the rust from the shotgun rubbed off on the foam inside the case, and it's a nice case....Ive tried everything to get it out of the foam, but it wont come off, is this case still safe to use for my other rifles? or will it rub off and/or cause rust problems on them?

Rust will not cause more rust. Lack of rust  prevention (oil grease wax etc) and a humid environment will cause rust, or if the metal comes in contact with strong oxidizers.

Never store firearms in a foam padded gun case.  They trap moisture and will rust the metal where the foam touches the firearm.  Use gun cases for transport only.

If the case foam is contaminated with rust, try looking at a local Arts and Crafts store for replacement foam.

Rust stained no. Big ass rust chunks  (like what fall from a 72 Ford) may scratch fine bluing.

Get some Blue Wonder and some 0000 steel wool and take off the rust!

Rust is not contagious. It won't cause other guns in the vicinity to rust. I once left an old 12ga. in a case overnight after duck hunting and found it covered with a fine layer of rust in the morning. I used an old gun rust removal method I read about years ago. Try turpentine and 000 or 0000 steel wool. I don't know why the turpentine seems to work, but it does. After removing the bulk of the rust, oil the gun down and let it soak into what remains of the rust. Eventually, it will penetrate and stop any further rusting.

For the case, either remove and wash out the foam liner or replace it. It should be easy to make new foam- use the existing for a pattern.
