How can I go about cleaning my lower? I don't really see a way to get in their with a brush, but I'm a newbie so any advice would be much appreciated.
Also, any tips on removing/cleaning the buffer spring? I read the how-too's, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Q-tips work good for getting into the lower receiver.
As far as disassembly goes..........................TM 9-1005-319-10 Operator's Manual w/Components List M16A2, M4, M4A1 http://www.ar15.com/content/index.html#manuals |

You can blast most of the grime out of there with unchlorinated brake cleaner. That would work as well, but would also remove all traces of lube. you can just relube or do you not like this method Quib? I would like to know your feelings on this for this is my current method I have been using. thanks |

Yeah, but I notice with my .22LR conversion kit... 500+ rounds last weekend, and the lower was filthy. I've never seen it so bad. I gave in and dismantled the trigger assembly then stuck it in the CLP/Mineral Spirits bin for about 40 mins (following Quib's BCG method). I love how easy Quib's method is for cleaning up small parts, I have carpal tunnel and cleaning can be a difficult experience for me... this method does wonders for saving my hands for pulling triggers instead of twisting brushes! |
