I figured out this weekend when i took my gun apart that some how my buffer retainer had sheered off.

It is a new gun so im going to see if that is covered by warranty and get the company to send a new buffer retainer to install.

I have never removed a buffer tube, anyone have any resources that would be helpful?

I dont need any special tools to do this just regular hand tools right?

or would i be better off sending the lower back and having them replace it?

with all the back orders on guns i dont want then to have my lower for 8 weeks or god knows how long

Update - I received an e-mail back from the manifacturer and they said they will send me a new buffer retainer. i guess my only problem is replacing it because i lack the technical skills to fix pretty much anything.

ill check around see who could help me.

well looks like the bolt didn't seat right and shred it off, it looks to be cut clean even with the buffer tube? but I'm not a smith or pro so can be sure, and you can use standard tool but at AR multi tool would be best.

Looks like your BCG was not pushing the buffer back a little when the rifle is assembled. Can you post a picture of your buffer face? Thanks.

You can loosen the castle nut a bit and rotate the buffer tube until the shoulder of the buffer retainer pops out but be careful as you do this since these small parts tend to get lost very easily. There's a spring underneath the retainer. Don't push the receiver end plate too far back as this might also pop out the take down pin spring and detent. You can use the AR armorer's tool for this job.

Had that happen to a RRA a while back, they erplaced the retainer, the spring, the tube and the buffer.  Whren mine broke, the broken bit ended up boogering the buffer and tube...

If your lock ring is not staked, it's a 10 minute job..  If it is staked, send it back and let the factory do it..

well i dont know what happened to my broken off piece, but it didnt affect anything because i put at least 100 rounds through it after i discovered the problem. i e-mail them so when i get a response ill find out if i send it back how long it will take.

You can do it. It's easy. After you're done, check and make sure your BCG is pushing against the buffer face as you close the rifle.

Oh I see. It would be very difficult to do this with just ordinary hand tools. You might add more to the problem at hand. I agree with you, better have it done by someone with the proper tools.
