| I was told to purchase a GI Cleaning Kit instead of an Otis Cleaning kit for my LMT rifle. Can you guys tell me if that's a good idea and tell me where I can purchase them? Links would be great. |

Either one will work fine. I use a pull-thru (AK74 kit) similar to the Otis for most of my cleaning. USGI kit is in the butt as range backup.
USGI kit here http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/products_details.asp?SKU=4819&ST=2 but that's pretty spendy. I found mine on the EE for about $15. BSW |
| I like the OTIS better over all. It's a Coated cable .I can't see anyway possible to damage my rifles chamber, muzzle, bore using the Otis. I keep a USGI in the buttstock for Back up. Otis for normal cleaning. No bore guide needed also. Everybody has there own reasons. I have been using the Otis for at least 6 years now. Cheers WarDawg |

There's no harm in having a USGI type of cleaning kit. Kleen-Bore makes a field kit which is the commercial equivalent of a U.S.G.I. kit. http://secure.armorholdings.com/kleen-bore/fieldkits.html It can be used to clean a rifle, including the chamber, exactly as various Training Manuals illustrate. http://www.ar15.com/content/index.html#manuals I've yet to see an Otis kit able to use the chamber brush. I imagine people purchase a dedicated tool to supplement their kit and enable them to clean the chamber. That said, I recognize many people are happy with their Otis kits and prefer them. I'm glad they're doing their part to maintain their rifles. Personally, I prefer the Kleen-Bore field kits. |

Actually the Otis M16 kit comes with 2 rods, a handle, and an adapter that lets you use the USGI chamber brush.
You can order any if the parts here: http://www.otisgun.com/cgistore/store.cgi?page=/new/fcatalog.html&setup=1&cart_id= Some of the scrapers are great for ARs that have high round counts w/o cleaning. BSW |

This is the one we were just issued from RFI. It's too big to take with me, so it's staying home. $613 of my tax money.
This, along with a stiff brush, a rag, patches, a flattened coat hanger, and some q-tips is I take. I do have a clp soaked boresnake in a ziplock bag for a quick wipedown. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR041-7.html |

| If you're an accuracy fanatic, use Dewey rods or some other coated rod rather than the steel rods. Steel rods can eventually lead to crown wear if you're not careful. Try Midsouth, MidwayUSA, or Natchez Shooter's Supply. Probably all three carry Dewey rods or something similar. |
