Okay.... So I got my old deformed crush washer off and I was able to restore what little damage I did to my threads with a thread file. I got my new Yankee hill brake to screw on by hand to check the threads and what I wondering now since I've never dealt with a crush washer before. Do I have to really crank on this new brake to get that washer down and properly index the brake with the barrel? I want to make sure I'm not going to do any harm before I start torquing. Thanks!

Crush washers crush easy. I prefer to use peel washers.

Piece of cake. Really doesnt take that much torque. Index to the closest point unless that leaves it finger tight. Use a good set of vice/barrel jaws. 15-20 lbs should be plenty. And...use a crush washer. It's the correct method. Crush washers are cheap, and using a new one would be best practice, so I'd only recomend re-using an old one if you have no other choice. Okay... I've got a new washer that's no problem and when I hand thread both on it stops with the brake exactly 180 from where it needs to be. You think 20 lbs is going to seat it without damaging the threads?

180 deg. should be no problem. Some people torque the apesh*t out of them, but theres really no need. Better to come up on the position lightly, than to try almost another complete revolution. No need for locktight or other such stuff. Torque a little, check. Torque a little more, check again. Repeat until you there, just go slow because the onr thing you dont want to do is back it off to index if you went to far.

Yeah.. That makes perfect sense. Thanks! I'll probably give it a shot tomorrow.
