| So I lost the handle for my pistol rod, and of course one can't buy just a handle, so I had to buy a whole kit. It came with a bottle of Formula3. It is labelled as a CLP. Is this stuff any good? Is it real CLP? I couldn't find a MSDS on line. If I end up using it, it will only be on revolvers. |

Discontinued, Available while quantities last
Although the Triple-action Formula 3 has been a superior product it has unfortunately been discontinue. As an alternative Break Free offers a superior synthetic gun conditioning oil with their Cleaner Lubricant and Preservative (CLP) line of products. For your convenience Break Free part numbers are listed with size and quantity you desire. Here's my response, from an earlier topic thread about it. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=7&t=410172 Quoted:
I just was given a rather large amount of this stuff in addition to Cleaning kits with small bottles in them from my Wife's Boss who said it was a hobby thats too complicated to keep in this day and age. (Yes I did ask him if he had anything else related to the "Hobby.") Anyhow, this stuff any good? It says its 3 in 1. Basically says everything CLP says on the label. Anyone ever use it? I did a search even in the Archive and not even one mention of the Name. Should I use this on my AR? I purchased a Kleen-Bore pistol cleaning kit equipped with a bottle of K.B. Formula 3 about ten years ago. I used the product to evaluate its performance and characteristics. Here are my impressions: - It seemed to have a thicker viscosity than BreakFree-CLP - It was okay for cleaning carbon fouling from burnt gunpowder - It was okay as a lubricant when freshly applied. It did not perform as well as BreakFree-CLP when a pistol had been stored for months before being brought to the range to fire 50 or more cartridges. A fresh application of lubrication alleviated stoppages caused by lack of lubrication. - As part of a kit, it was good to test and evaluate as a 'sample'. - The bottom line is that I prefer BreakFree-CLP and feel it is better than K.B. Formula 3 Gun Conditioner. Here's a quote and a link to Kleen-Bore's own words about their Formula 3 product. http://secure.armorholdings.com/kleen-bore/product366.html Formula 3 Gun Conditioner Discontinued, Available while quantities last Although the Triple-action Formula 3 has been a superior product it has unfortunately been discontinue. For more information on Break Free line of products please visit BreakFree.com I interpret the message to indicate that even Kleen-Bore acknowledges that BreakFree-CLP is superior to Formula 3 Gun Conditioner. Formula 3 is not bad, it just isn't as good as BreakFree-CLP. I see no harm in using it within its limitations. Posted :: 12/12/2008 7:02:39 PM EST |
