Is it best to remove any optics for cleaning your rifle?  I just put an Eotech 512 on my M&P15 and I was wondering if I should remove it every time I clean my rifle or if it is okay to leave it on.

Will removing it and replacing it often wear on the mounting hardware?  Will it affect my zero?  It is just mounted directly to the flat top receiver on my M&P.

I am just wondering what you guys do when cleaning your AR's that have similar optics.

I never removed optics for cleaning, except those scopes with ARMS mounts.

Just be careful where you sling the CLP or bore solvent, and don’t forget......... these are optics designed for combat.

If I'm cleaning and my optic doesn't have quick release/return to zero capabilities, I just zip-tie one of those gallon size ziplock bags around my optic until I'm done cleaning.  I've never had any cleaning solvents/lubricants get on my optics while doing this.  YMMV.

Yep! Another alternative.

I use shower caps on my scopes...

All my scopes are in Larue mounts so I just take them off.

I hang a sandwich baggie around it and secure with a rubber band. Works fine and it's cheap.
