Got a Colt M4, but i cannot knock the front sight pins for the life of me, I realize they are tapered, so I know I am knocking the right side, and I am tried in my drill press and i am worried of damaging the barrel. I think I am going to have to cut it off, best way?
thanks

Make sure your working on a good solid surface. A flimsy table top or work bench only absorbs the energy from your hammer, instead of transferring it to the pins.

You may also want to invest in a nail set for removing and installing FSB pins. The concave tip of the nail set fits perfectly on the head of the pin, better than the flat tip of a standard pin punch, and works great for busting the pin loose. The same goes for setting the pins during installation.

when i said i was knocking the right side, it was a metaphorical right side.
I have a sold work space, and have been supporting the barrel with wood to avoid damage, I will look into nail set instead of the different punches and stock i have been using. It soaked in CLP and even then the drill press wouldn't make them budge with a significant amount of pressure, and doing them with punches and hammer was no success, it got to the point where i was worried I would bend the barrel.

I'm having the same issue. Drove the front one out easily. I've flattened the "special taper pin punch" from Brownells and one other trying to get the rear one out. I also have been using a wood block for support. I just ordered the front sight bench block from Brownells, maybe that'll help. Tried heat, too... If there was enough room I'd just grind the bitch off at this point.
