| Bought the pan, the wire basket, the mineral spirits, clp, just cleaned the rifle, system works awesome, now if I can just get the pickle smell out of jar I stole from the fridge...also two words...coffee filters, works great to strain the junk out of the mineral spirits/CLP mixture, one more, no smell!!!!!! |
|
Excellent! I'm glad your happy with, and are obtaining good results with the OMS/CLP mixture! I used to use coffee filters to strain the mixture back into the jar. I would place a funnel in the jar, with the filter inside. The only draw back I saw was the mixture took too long to filter through. |
Oh, did I forget to mention the secret ingredient? The mixture is a combination of OMS, CLP and pickle juice! ![]() Seriously though, I’m glad to hear people are getting good results with this method. |
|
Please remind me what was used as a strainer basket. I want to try this method (have had an aluminum pan sitting on my work bench for months now), but can't remember what to use for the "parts colander". I am also thinking about going the cheapass route (at least giving it a shot) and using Mobil 1 and mineral spirits instead of CLP. We'll see how effective it is. |
That's baloney. QUIB's the Man when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. You could eat off his bolt carriers, if you considered LP to be seasoning. Y'all listen to QUIB. |
Uh... okay... If one can say nothing else about QUIB, one must say he knows his documentation. Could you IM that individual's name, so that I can read his future posts with a more skeptical eye? |
No, I’m not going to do that. It wouldn’t be right. But I of course did not sit idly by and let that person go with out a response from me. I put a lot of effort into this web site in an attempt to help others and to get CORRECT information out to those asking for it. I would hope I don’t have a reputation as one of those who “does not provide fact based info.” |
Big +1 here I don't post in this forum, but i read it a lot. I've learned a great deal from Quib's posts. Thanks, and keep it up. Even if some people don't like your posting Quib, many more of us DO like it. |
Huh. There's so much baloney from internet shooters, that the newbie wouldn't have any idea what to believe or do. Much of the stuff on these forums concerns human wave defense fantasies and scholastic philisophizing about how many angels can fit on the tip of a Noveske's front sight. Quib's the opposite. He's a source of solid information. I don't know him, know nothing about him, except that as a longtime shooter and loader, and a recent afrcom member, I've come to many of the same conclusions as he has, for what that's worth. I reiterate: Newbies and oldies alike, Listen to Quib when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. The man knows his stuff. |
And as I stated before, many times; People that come here looking for answers, deserve the most accurate information possible. Not some BS spewed from someone obviously bent on disseminating incorrect information. Again, people here deserve the most correct information possible. As a long time member of this web site, My Personal Mission Statement to ARFCOM is: - I will always try my best, with the resources I have at hand, to provide the most factual information possible when answering a question. If I do not know the answer, I will not blow smoke up your ass. I will flat out tell you that I have no experience in that area. - I will always try my best to provide documentation to support my response. Or, link you or send you in the direction of the correct documentation. Sometimes my documentation might be in the form of a tech manual excerpt, or, a personal photo illustrating my point or procedure. - If my response is my PERSONAL OPINION, then I will do my best to let the readers know that. - And if I, or the information I provide is proven wrong, then I am man enough to admit that I “stand corrected”. |
No shit? LOL! As my Grandfather used to say.... "some people will bitch if they're hung with a new rope!" Thanks for all the info you've passed along, QUIB! Michael |
