Ok...I give up. Ya cant use a chamber brush on a "twisty" handle cleaning rod. So I went and got a "GI" cleaning kit. First time attempting chamber cleaning the stupid wire brush twists outta threaded peice you screw into the rod. And the gi kit uses different threads than the standard (8/32 I think?)
So how the heck do I use a chamber brush???? Why doesnt anyone make a dedicated handle for chamber brushes?

Am I missing something here????

Dewey makes a rod for the chamber brush.

You can only twist the brush one way, for two reasons.

One being the way the brush is made and the second is the brush will unscrew if you turn it in the opposite direct.

If you have the chamber brush with the military threading, you can buy a handle to match the brush

The GI cleaning kit rod will have the swiveling rod handle, 2 or 3 extensions, and a shorter extension rod. This short extension has the correct threads for your regular brushes, jags, etc.

My Gi kit spun the wrong way in the chamber. If I were to spin it to keep the brush threaded in it would unspin the handle.
Anyone got a link for the Dewey chamber handle?

I dont think I got a true GI kit. Where the brush inserts into the threaded coupler is totally different from that pic. Mine was just a tube with a small indent punched to hold the brush from twisting/pulling out...it didnt work well. Brush twisted right out before I even got the thing spun into the chamber all the way. Problem was the twist of the wires in the brush vs the direction of spin. one way would unscrew the handle the other way unscrews the brush.

I never noticed that! I've just relied on screaming profanities while rotating the bare rod with my hands all these years. This will be much more efficient.

I picked up the Dewey kit, it works very well. I am just wondering how much times should you spin it in the chamber? does it matter? will it wear down the crome lining in the chamber?

Your not going to wear the chamber down, cleaning it by hand with a chamber brush.

As far as procedure goes..............

I personally begin by flushing the chamber with BF Powder Blast.

- Apply solvent to the brush.

- In one motion, insert the brush as you twist. (CW direction only.)

- Continue twisting as you remove the brush.

- Flush chamber brush of solvent and residue. (Brake Cleaner works good for this.)

- Drape a pistol patch over the brush. This will mop up the solvent left in the chamber.

- In one motion, insert the brush as you twist.

- Continue twisting as you remove the brush.

- Repeat if necessary.
