Is duracoat worth the money?  I posted in a different topic that I'm buying a new AR.  I am thinking about having it duracoated in a camo pattern.

Is there any drawback to having it duracoated?  Are the advantages to a "show, collection" rifle worth it.  I will rarely fire the new AR, mostly it will be to complete a portion of my collection, which is just getting started.

Thanks for your help.

It's not terribly durable on a rifle that sees any real use, I've noticed that on a couple of mine that I Duracoated and use for hunting.
Looks good and is easy to apply, though.

If you want black, white, grey,or bronze Duplicolor wheel paint is the way to go. It's tougher and easier to apply than duracoat cheaper too. A friend of mine painted his Enfield with it and after a couple hundred rounds the paint was still on the muzzle crown.

If it is for  a collectable don't use it.  It looks good but does wear.  I like it because it offers a good barrier for moisture on the steel parts and it is easy to apply.  I haven't used any Norrells but they say it is more durable than the DuraCoat.  You may want to read in the Armory/refinishing section for a better answer.  Just my 2 cents

Thanks, I will.  I am also beginning to think that for a collection, I don't want to cover the original work.  Also, once I kick the bucket, the kids will likely sell off the guns and the buyer may not like my choice in colors or patters.
