Has anyone had any issues with using the foaming bore cleaners in a AR?  I am sold on Wipe Out for cleaning a bore, but wonder if it will have any adverse effect on the gas system used on an AR.  I am talking about blockage or related problems.  I am just getting back into the black rifle game, but have used Wipe Out on my other firearms with great results. Thanks in advance.

I use Wipe Out also and never have any problems on my AR. If it gets in the gas tube it will only clean it a bit and then dissolve.

I contacted BF on this when I was first considering using their FBC. I was told the BF FBC was safe to use on the AR15 or M16. There is a brand out there which I believe is the Outers brand often times sold at WalMart. The Outers brand states on the can that it is not recommended for use on gas operated weapons.

I use the outer brand on my M1A, but I shut off the gas system while cleaning.

did you pull the piston?
how well did it clean up the piston area?

The Gluslick Foaming Bore Cleaner says not recommended for gas operated automatics.  I emailed them and asked why.  They said in small places, like a gas tube, it can harden.  However, I have a hard time believing the first shot woudn't clear it out without problems.

Or a quick shot of brake cleaner or powder blast, should clean it all right out. I used the gunslick a few times on my AR with no bad results. Just flushed out the gas tube with a quick shot of cleaner.

I got the BrakeFree foaming stuff now, and I still give my gas tube a quick shot and blue liquid from copper comes out the muzzle.

NO, pulling of the piston. I just rotate the gass shutoff.  If my piston passes the tilt test I dont bother removing it for cleaning.

The gunslick works, but I still need to use a brush and BBS for a 2" section in the bore.

I would think it would clean up the piston area rather well as it is mostly carbon. Just use the Drill bits to remove the large stuff then spray and soak.
