it seems i read i believe here somewhere about the differnt color extractor spring inserts what is the difference between the blue and the black? and what about that $13 defender D ring? i am begining to feel like ol' PT Barnum is making a lot of AR parts...

I believe blue extractor inserts are for rifles, black extractor inserts are for carbines (the black inserts are suppossed to be made of a "denser" material than the blue)

People will say to use the Crane O-rings from Adco, which are only $1.  But the Defender D-rings are suppossed to last alot longer, while the Crane O-rings are expendable.

if you put a Wolff XP extractor spring in there you don't even need a O/D ring in there.

Don’t know where these parts can be had from, but here’s some more info on the new M4 extractor set up.

Are they referring to the Colt Copper Extractor Spring, sold by Brownells?

I asked this question a while back. I bought the upgrade from SAW Sales about 3 yrs ago. It came with a greenish colored spring and black insert. I added that and a Crane O ring from Adco. Its a new BCG so I will see how it works. I have about 600rds loaded to shoot. Just waiting for a chance to go.

Buddy just got a S&W 16" barreled gun and it has a blue insert?

Leave it?  Change it?  Or add an O-Ring from Adco?
