Are they any good?

Also should I get the boresnake brand or in CTD they have a "knockout" brand, are they the same, or are their differences? thanks

Stick with the original Hoppes BOresnake; it is the best out there for quick cleaning in the field. I have one for every caliber I own/use (9mm/.45/12Ga/5.56mm/.30cal) and they made my cleaning kit that much smaller.

+1 Hoppes Boresnakes keep all my calibers in tip top shape, super clean and super fast

Boresnakes are great for cleaning.......at the range. Using a boresnake is like washing your clothes in dirty water.....cleaner than they were, but still not CLEAN, but, i am a clean freak.

I actually prefer the knockout because the the copper brush is separate from the "swab" brush so you can run the swab through your barrel w/o the wire brush at the range when you want, but can still use the wire brush as well when you want - just more flexible IMO. I have both brands and both work well - no problems either way.

The only problem I have is to clean the boresnake itself. After couple times of use they are such a mess.....Some could advise you to put them in a washer, but if I do so my "better part" won't allow me to buy wepons anymore. I was washing them in a small dedicated pan for a while, but ended up to ditch them.

Wash a boresnake, or several of them in a mesh bag, in the washing machine using simple green

Yes they work.
I think that only one or two manufacturers make them for
all the different resellers.

Watch for a while and someone usually has them on sale.
Or buy them lightly used at gun shows from old timers that
do not like them.
