Walmart Coated Rod > Maintenance & Cleaning

Are these OK to use? Saw them for about $4, blue in color. Has adapter for male/female thread.

I always go with the rule "you get what you pay for". I would say it will do the job but I would recommend a Dewy rod. If you have a high price gun don't chance harming it with cheap assesories.

I bought one and broke it the second time that I used it. I thought that it would be a cheap "stand by" until I bought a good one. I ended up getting a one-piece carbon fiber with billet handle. Just spend a little more money, it'll be worth it.

I've been looking at one-piece rods, what brand did you get and where?

I bought one of them over a year ago and have cleaned my 22s and 223s many many times without a problem but i did modify it before using it. If you buy one, before using it, file down the Knurled aluminum end where the jag screws in it as the diameter is actually to big for 22 caliber and will drag in barrel.

Same here - I own two of them, and both work great in all my firearms. The brass rods get damaged by my copper solvent (used every so often) and turn black, so the blue coated ones get all the use now. My two are really nice, especially for the money.

I got one that sounds similar at the local sporting goods store. I coated the aluminum adapter with epoxy paint because I thought it might score the barrel.

So I crimped it w/ pliers now it works fine .

Yeah, all the ones hanging in Wal-mart have loose ends on them (and half are missing), and you just have to tighten them hard by hand. The adapter screws into the rod and the brush/jag screws into the adapter. For some reason, they come really loose from the Outers factory.

I use the Kleen Bore brand one piece steel rod. It’s non-coated but works just fine. No signs of any wear.

I've got a Dewey 1 piece chamber rod that works very well...very solid. I haven't had a chance to try one of their 1 piece bore rods yet. They're supposed to be real good though. Right now I'm stuck with a 3 piece aluminum rod.
