I have the Otis M16 Buttstock Cleaning Kit and during cleaning tonight I noticed that from keeping the rod wrapped up in the case it has a bend in it now. When you run the rod down the barrel with the Obstruction Remover piece in the front you can feel it rub along the bore. Does this metal piece rubbing against the bore cause any damage?

If your kit came with a tiny cd put it in your computer and watch the otis guy clean his AR-15.  It makes the same noise. I highly doubt it is going to cause any damage.  It is smaller than .224 it isnt hot and has no force behind it and it shurley is safer than the stander issue stuff that came with the gun, not that that stuff is bad or anything.  If you bought the kit I bought it didnt come with a lug cleaner.  So I just use the one that came with the gun.

Anyways watch the video.  Lots of clicking and scraping noises

I’ve never played with the OTIS kits, I’m more of an old school conventional cleaner, but the OTIS cable ends and attachments are brass are they not? I highly doubt that a soft brass swedged on cable fitting will harm your barrel.

If it concerns you, stick to cleaning at home with a good one piece cleaning rod and save the OTIS kit for your field gear / SHTF emergency cleanings.
