Hi All, I took my new RRA Tactical Entry to the range today. Everything went beautifully until I got it home and started to clean it. I was using a new OTIS cleaning kit with a flexible rod. When I went to run a patch through it stuck in the bore. I can't push it back towards the chamber end because the rod is flexible and it will not come through the muzzle end. I don't want to risk damaging the bore. Does anyone have any ideas that I could try? How do I keep something like this from happening again? Be advised that I've already acknowledged my own stupidity to myself in multiple"choice words." The bore is chromed. Thanks For Any Help, Denny R |

So as you were pulling the flex through the patch slipped off the end? Bummer. :( You could keep a standard rod around the house for these situations: www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=146904 |
First off, don’t panic and do something stupid that might ruin your rifle. I know it looks terrible but this has happened before. You say: “The problem is that the flex rod is still attached and protruding from the bore.” Is there actually enough flex rod hanging from the muzzle end of the barrel that you can grab a hold of it? Wooden dowels and mallets have been used in the past to slowly tap stuck patches through the bore. If the flex rod is actually protruding from the end of the barrel like I imagine from your description, would it be possible to slowly pull the whole mess the rest of the way through by grabbing the end of the flex rod? Ok,I fixed it. It got pretty easy once I left it overnight and thought about it a little(go figure). I twised the flex rod until it came uscrewed fromthe patch holder. Then I took a conventional rod,put it down the muzzle, screwed it onto the patch holder and ran it out the breech end. It didn't even require any tapping. Do I still feel like an idiot?yeah, but I don't think I'll be using the Otis flex rod anytime soon. Thanks for the help! Denny R |

I can't take it any more. I gotta say something now. Why in the world would anyone, anyone, stick a rod down a barrel from the muzzle. It's from the breech. The muzzle is for bullets. Sorry about that, but I'm one of those anal Benchresters who cleans his rifle every 6/15 rounds, depending on the wind. Roy |
