Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Barrel cleaning question?

Hello, I have just bought my first AR (armalite m15a4) and I have a cleaning question. During the barrel break in process, i noticed while pushing my one piece rod through the barrel i would sometimes feel a slight bump right near the gas block. Is what i'm feeling the port? Thank you for your response.

I have the same gun, but have not noticed the "bump" you mention.

Yes what you feel is most likely the gas port. I’ve experienced this as well while cleaning new barrels. If you look down the barrel and don’t see anything obvious and the rifle groups fine I wouldn’t worry about it. With time the port should smooth out.
