| Has anyone removed their delta ring for a s.i.r. system? I was wondering if it is too difficult to do for a nonarmorer. Do you have to check the head space afterward? |

HOLY BATCRAP DOGMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Devildog, Ya don't have to suffer through a 48hour course to do it. And unlike USMC88-93's elegant, but frankly medival approach, it does not need involve a dremel, hatchett, and an assistant named Igor. (USMC 88-93, I actually like the frontal assault approch ya found...... I never considered such a thing! Thanks, it's an option I might have to take some day. Seriously!) Holler at Bushmaster/Quality parts. Order the video, a barrel wrench, and a vice block. Head to the hardware and pick up a punch set, and a medium screwdriver. The screwdriver will be needed to remove the retaining ring once ya get the barrel off. It seems like 3rd echilon Voodoo, untill you have done it. Then it seems like everything else, ya cheated on to get stuff done. Order a couple of spare gas tube roll pins as a good measure, cuz the little things live to hide from you. Headspace ain't a concern unless you change out a bolt or Barrel extension. On reassembly, follow the guidelines in the TM and NOT the BM reccomended torque specs. Have done more than my share, and it seems everything comes back closer to the TM than what BM states in their Armorers Course. Go slow, and creep up on things the first time. You'll do fine. a dremel would be the easiest and fastest way to do it and many have done it without any problems but if you want to do it the "right" way go to the build it yourself forum and look through the tacked threads which have step-by-step instructions for removing the barrel. after the barrel is removed you just need a pair of snap ring pliers to remove the retaining ring and it all comes off |
