I decided to buy a list of parts from Otis to build up a kit for my Vepr (7.62x39) and my AR-15:

40" flex rod
T-handle
.22 cal slot tip
.30 cal slot tip
.22 cal brush
.30 cal brush

total was about $22 shipped vs $40+ for the "All-caliber" kit that comes with a bunch of stuff I don't need. I can't figure out how their bore obstruction remover works. If a bullet lets lodged in the middle of a 24" barrel, I'd need at least 12" of rod to get it out, but most likely a 24" rod to easily get at it from either end.

Is there anything else I needed? I didn't want to spend the $10 on a cleaning kit case. I'll just toss it in a ziploc or make my own bag.

I already bought a 12 gauge bore brush for my AR-15's barrel extension and a .410 gauge bore brush for the AR-15 and Vepr chambers. The 5-16 thread is MUCH beefier than the 8-32 as are the shotgun cleaning rods.

I'm in the same boat, so to speak.  The only items I got different were the nato adaptor (so you can use other attachements?) and the small obstruction remover (juries out on if I'll need it).  The Maryland AR15 thread got me going in this.  Already had a 30" flex-rod and patches from a trip to Nellis' BX.

the kit came in handy when Doggin withthe AR and being pretty far from the truck. Nice way to give the barrel a simple cleaning. I ordered only parts i wanted and not a pre packaged kit. The kits had a few things i'll never use. Overall good product.
