Out of curiousity, why does the cleaning manual state that you are suppossed to stagger the bolt ring gaps when reassembling your bolt group?

I think the train of thought is that if all of the rings gaps are in a line, it could allow too much gas to seep/leak through. This is what was explained to me anyways.
