I have a ar15 a2 how do I remove the from sling holder it seems to be rivited in place. Iam trying to mount a side mount

Cut it down the center, and pop it off.

Is it riveted on or held on with a roll pin?

File off the peened head of the rivet and drive the rivet out with a pin punch. On a good day a stiff hit with a pin punch will break off the peened portion saving having to file it.
