I am not new to owning an AR but after joining this site and reading some of your recommendations, I am apparently very new to cleaning my AR properly. When I first got my AR in 1999 I had the help of a cop who showed me how to maintain the rifle. He never said anything about the rods that came with AR as being bad, and I have been using them ever since. What are the best cleaning rods to use? By the way thanks to everyone who recommended CLP, I started using it after reading some of your posts, and that stuff ROCKS!!! |

I'd suggest taking a look at the operators guide (-10 manual). It explains in detail proper cleaning technique. Works great for a GI chrome bore. For those who can't/don't want to follow the manual, an Otis pull-thru kit is a decent alternative. Enjoy that shooter! |

Now that I've learned the difference, the only rods I use in my rifles, ARs included, are Deweys. Previously I used the multi-part aluminum, luckily before I got my ARs.
