Is there anything in a Bushmaster that diesel will damage? I would like to remove the handguards and buttstock and throw the rest in a barrel of diesel.

Simple Green is going to be more harmful to your AR than diesel is... SG has this nasty habit of causing hydrogen embrittlement and is highly corrosive to aluminum... SG's use is forbidden by AF personnel on any aluminum equipment.

It would be very similiar to Varsol or Minerial Spirits.  Niether of which would harm any AR parts.

Be aware that ALL lubricatant will be remove.  This will leave the parts highly prone to rusting.  Be sure to heavily CLP (verb) afterwards.

I used SG on my jet for quite some time and never noticed any corrosion, but maybe that was because we didn't know about the corrosion then. SG does a great job of cleaning, as long as you carefully wash it out and don't let it sit for a long time.

I agree, SG does a great job of cleaning and I'd believe if you didn't let parts soak and rinsed very well with hot water you'd be OK using it... The problem would be any area the SG could get into and not be rinsed out well...

When the DOD issued the statement about SG a few years back I quit using it just to play it safe.

The bumper on the back of the buffer is polymeric, I think it is polyurethane.  I don't know how this would be affected by diesel.
