Lately I noticed a few people mentioning that when using a bore solvent like Ed's Red (now available commercially at Brownell's BTW), Shooter's Choice, and some of the others with ammonia, and you are finished with them you use rubbing alcohol to stop the cleaning/solvent action to prevent damage to the barrel. Somehow I don't think this action is really necessary since you are running several dry patches through the barrel until it comes out clean.

Would anyone care to comment?

Whenever I use a cleaner with ammonia, I always follow it with a patch soaked with 99% rubbing alcohol. Whether it does neutralize the ammonia or not is moot to me. I figure that it can't hurt the gun, so I do it.
