I recently built an AR-15. Now that it is finished I want to customize it! I would like to put a light onto the handguard, but the lightmounts I've seen all require a rail. My question is what is the easyest way to mount a light?

Second: I was thinking of a vertical hand grip. Do most mount to a rail, or can some of the grips mount to the stock handguard?

And Third:Does anyone have a have a particular aftermarket pistolgrip that they like? I've been kind-of looking at thoughs.  Thanks.

First off the easy part, any post ban accessory stock item will fit the pre-ban as there are not physical differences between post-ban and pre-ban, simpley cosmetic differences.

As to the light and grip mounting, you have ALOT of options:

1. you can buy rails that attach to your handguards, probably the cheapest option.
2. you can buy handgurads w/ the Surefire light built it it, and mount them
3. there are Samco and Fobus railed HG options that will replace your standard HGs and have rails for light and front grip mounting.
4. then there are complet rail systems like the ARMS S.I.R. models, the KAC RAS and RAS II systems and even others like PRI and ones I can't even remember the name of. These are the more expesive of the options listed.

Read and shop for that option which best fits your needs, as your at the right place to learn.

hey speed,
if ya don't want to go with a ris type system, you can buy a light mount from surefire that clamps on the barrel in between the front sight mount. when you own an ar-15 it is going to be an expensive habit(me its an addiction)there are so many accessories out there! but if ya got the funds by a forend rail system! many of our industry partners are selling the kac ras 2 for 275.00 shipped. cant really beat that price! but once again there are so many options! you get what ya pay for. i found out in the past i have had purchased accessories that was cheap in price was cheap in quality and ended up purchasing the top of the line accessory later. do yourself a favor save up and buy the best imho.
