Hello,

Just got my first AR.  I have an OTIS Tac cleaning kit and used this for the first cleaning but did not have a chamber brush yet so I'll get that and do the chamber more thoroughly soon.

My question is this...  I read a lot about a cleaning rod guide and I've seen pictures of them as well but I'm not sure what their function is beyond keeping the short rod with chamber brush "straight" so to speak.  Is that all?

Thanks for any info.

Ive been using the Dewey guide for a couple of years with their coated rods.  It basically perfectly centers it at the start of the rifling and prevents the edge of your cleaning attachement (brush or jag) from coming in contact with the edge of the rifling.  You dont want this area worn any more than you do your crown.
