Can someone tell me their procedure for cleaning the locking lugs without getting crud in the bore?

Yes, I have one of these brushes, but what is your process for the actually cleaning? Do you push the brush through towards the muzzle? Do you stick the brush in and then back it out? Please advise.

You put some CLP on the chamber brush and spin it into the chamber all the way, then spin it back out, always turning clockwise. This will loosen up all the crud, including on the lugs.

Then you clean the crud out with patches. I like to lightly coat the patches with CLP. The 'toothbrush' accessory is also helpful.

After this you can clean the bore with CLP, working from breech to muzzle.

Use the -10 as your guide.

It doesn't matter if you get some crud in the bore because you are going to clean it out last using this procedure.

Spent 10 years in the Corps but just cannot bring myself to use a military style chamber brush on my chrome-lined 10A4 or Bushie (don't even ask about my SS barrels on my various 10Ts).

So, I use a standard bronze-phosphor Pro-Shot .308 or .223 chamber brush for just the chambers, a Pro-Shot 10ga shotgun brush for the AR-10s lugs and 16ga shotgun brush for the Bushmaster.

I use a chamber brush with CLP to knock things loose.  Then, use a Q tip the sop the crud out.

GI chamber brush dunked in Breakfree or Hoppe's.
Rotate clockwise untill bored.Remove, wrap a patch over the brush, insert and swab out chamber.Grab Midway or Sinclair bolt lug tool and swab out barrel extension recess.
Apply lube to fresh lug tool swab, and lube the recess to keep future gorp from sticking.
Insert bore guide,scrub bore.

When all is said and done, run a dry brush once through the bore to get rid of any fibers that might remain.

This is what works fer me...
Hope it helps.
