Men and Ladies,
I have built a few 80% lower receivers (223's and 308) using the "UNIVERSAL AR-15 EASY JIG GEN 1".  They all work correctly with standard function checks.

I just completed (nearly) a new lower.  I installed the safety last and it failed the function test in the following way:
a. With the safety still out, the trigger fired correctly.
b. With the safety installed, the trigger will not budge.  The hammer and the trigger will not move.

I tried a shorter pistol grip screw with the same result.

Any help is appreciated.

Why did you post this in three different forums?

Pocket not deep enough

Eta for clarity. Fcg pocket is out of spec.  It's too shallow. Trigger is pushed up binding up on the selector.

Also check the trigger slot.  If it doesn't go far enough forward, it will bind against the safety.

If the slot is short enough, you won't even get the safety in but that doesn't sound like your issue.

Here you go for the lower receiver drawings,
http://www.firearmfiles.com/files/AR15/AR15%20Lower%20Machine%20Drawing.pdf

Start mic'g and find out where the problem is, and even if the receiver can be saved.  Hence if the pin channel or selector channel is not in the correct places, then you pretty much will end up with a paper weight instead.

As for using a drilling jig, I don't, Hence I start with 0 forgings, and either let the CNC machine do the work, or if manual done, then just let the DRO do the work for the needed jogs.

Bluntly, you can buy a 100% lower for about $50 that is anodized as well, and don't see the reasoning for buying a 80% to end up spending more money on it that a completed unit instead.

For those of us that live in oppressive states, having no paper trail for the local Gestapo to follow is more important than the expense of the weapon.

I don't buy any guns in the People's Republic of Maryland in which I reside, but I have built a few and acquired some C&R's they cannot track!
