I just shot some Freedom Muntions 60 gr PSP .223 ammo out of my m&p 15 sport. I got a case head separation while using the ammo and I'm stuck I don't know what to do.
How do I get the rest of the casing out? Is my gun damaged in any way? Any other info on how to fix this or any tips would be very helpful. Thanks for all he replies!!! |

Broken case extractor
No one here can say whether your rifle is damaged, but if the projectile is not stuck in the barrel, you may be good to go. |

Do a thorough chamber cleaning with a chamber brush and CLP, mop it dry and clean, and rod/patch the barrel and rock on. Also, notify the ammo maker of the malfunction and the lot # of the batch. If it was new/factory, they need to know, and if it was reloaded, don't buy any more of it. |

Another trick to getting a slit case out of the chamber is a 30 cal cleaning brush.
Drop a single piece cleaning rod down the muzzle and out the back of the upper receiver through the spit case still in the chamber, install the 30 cal cleaning brush on the single piece cleaning rod and pull the 30 cal cleaning brush into the split case until it stops at the shoulder of the split case, then give the handle of the clearing rod a sharp blow to drive the handle towards the muzzle. The brush bristles angle rearward in the split case will get a good enough bite to the inside of the case that the blow to the cleaning rod handle will drive the split case out of the chamber. P.S, use a older worn 30cal brush that you were going to throw away anyways, since it will be a goner by the time you get it back out of the split case in the end. |
