| My 1st. failure after many range trips & rounds fired. Had my 1st failure last weekend at the range F.T.E. found the end of the extractor had failed and broken off. Is this common? I had a spare, Are there any upgraded extractor's? or recommendations? TIA |

Not really common, and most of the ones that I have seen broken are ether just heat treated incorrectly (not second step tempered correctly), or just someone one working up loads and going way over over pressure signs instead (other problems than just a damaged B/C as well).
Just get the supplier/manufacturer on the phone that you got the rifle/BC from, and they will send you a free replacement extractor for the defective unit. |

When teaching armorer courses, we show a collection of broken and worn extractors. The ones that we have collected that are broken on the front as you describe have a couple of common factors, all failed when shooting 0steel cased ammo, and they were all metal injection molded extractors. What brand of extractor or bolt, or if bought as a complete rifle then what brand? If you could post some close up pics of the breakage and any machining indicator marks on the extractor, that may help tell us what you have.

| I've never seen an extractor break, but I know it can happen. My M&P sport is at the 11k round mark almost all steel tulammo and I'm still on the original extractor. If it were me, I'd pick up a new extractor and extractor spring from BCM or LaRue and call it a day. |
