Really you should find someone who does or break down and buy what you need, can it be done likely but any misjudgement and you leave your garage or dining room cursing.

It depends on what FF and configuration.  In addition to removing the barrel, you may need to remove the front sight assembly/gas block.

Depending on the rail you choose, the absolute bare minimum is a hack saw/dremel and pair of tin snips. Hammer and punches make it easier. If you use a free float rail that utilizes the stock barrel nut then the tools required are minimal. That's what I did.

There are many rails that use a standard barrel nut. Troy Alpha rails, Rainier Arms Evolution, Samson Evolution... the list is pretty long. All you would need to do is shave your front sight base.

Buy the tools or have someone do it for you, unless you can borrow tools.

My father is a DIY'er when it came to cars and household stuff, and he acquired tons of tools, many of which he only used once or twice to get a task done.

So I was raised in the mentality that you should just shell out for the right tool(s) that you need to get the job done correctly.

Thanks guys. I going to get the apex gator grip or noveske rail because both company's are local so its cheaper. But i like the troy alpha. Which would be the the easyst to install.

And i would buy the tools but dam does it get costly. Mabey i will buy the tools use them then return them.

As for the frontsight i was just going to chop it And cover it.

If you're going to do that, then getting the Alpha is easiest by FAR. Primary Arms has the VTAC Alpha for $150 (11''). You can also look up Samson and Rainier Arms. I actually just sold my Alpha 11'' for $110 shipped

Don't buy the tools then return them - that's how good return policies get watered down and become an inconvenience (restocking fees, having to pay shipping, etc)

+1 On returning tools after you "use" them!

One of the Best armorers wrench is the Gem State Armory one. It is the LAST wrench you will ever need. It comes with the adaptors for USGI (normal) barrel nuts as well as a side for "free float" rails. You can also get adaptors that fit on it with ridiculously strong magnets over index pins that fit AR10 as well as quite a few others. Its only $45 bucks.(granted its out of stock a lot, but its worth the wait, they restock very often. Its a VER poular wrench!) I can not see any way it can be broken or stretched. If you break this armorers wrench you have much bigger issues. Its made in the USA in Idaho. It does the flash hiders in any size (AR!% or AR10). It also does the buffer tube castle nut!

Other than a good wrench, a set of punches and a vise block set are super cheap. I use the ProMag clamshell vice block set. ($50 on Amazon) It holds upper (A2 or Flattop) for barrel work. It even comes with a plastic dowel the same size of the BCG to insert inside upper so you apply no uncontrolled torque on your upper for barrel work. Also I use the plastic BCG dowel  to align/ install clamp on FSB's. The T-Handle of the plug sticks up above the upper so you can sight down the barrel and use it to set your FSB.

If you EVER plan on building another rifle down the line you will have the right tools for the right job. It will save you time down the line and you wont have crappy tools making your build a pain in the a$$.

Please don't buy and return the tools. It makes it harder and more expensive for us that intend to keep our tools if we do have to return them. If you cant afford to buy the most basic tools, maybe building AR's is not the best thing for you! Building AR's is very addicting and also very rewarding!

If you want a specific tool list let me know.
