I have this AR57 lower I just got and when I assembled I noticed that the bolt catch raises way up on an empty mag or if I lock the bolt back. I notice with the bolt locked back the bolt catch is pretty high up on the bolt face and I am considering selling this lower because of it..or would that be crazy and its fine..

I'm a beginner so please bare with me. I am not sure how high the bolt catch should be able to potentially rise. It looks too high to me but if it doesn't matter and won't affect function I'll just roll with it.

Your comparing it to what? It's high but by what basis did you come to this conclusion.

Does it work? Hard to activate? Hard to release? Lock back on empty reliably?

Uh..I am comparing it to every other ar I have put together....the bolt catch raises high enough to cover about half the bolt face.

Did you install the bolt catch buffer on top of the spring before you install the catch, and sure that you installed the correct spring?

...Yes I did. The bolt catch should not be that high. Edit high enough to cover half the bolt face, make it about 2/3 of the bolt face covered with an empty mag in the rifle.

Not to be dense here, but is the sequence of the bolt catch, buffer and spring in the exact same order as Dano's illustration shows?

If so, then does the bolt catch look exactly the same as other bolt catches you have seen?
Does the receiver look exactly like the other receivers (in the bolt catch area) ?

This can not possibly be a complicated issue.  Take your time and go over everything slowly when no distractions are around.  I have confidence you will see the problem.

I would suggest not "just rolling with it" since the tolerances are the way they are for a reason.  One thing wrong affects other things.

Keep us posted!

Ok I know why it is doing it I just wanted to know if it would work but I am sending it back. Has anyone had any luck with ar-57 lowers? The problem is where the bolt catch is held in place by the roll pin, the recessed area is too deep where the bottom of the bolt catch is supposed to bottom out allowing the damn thing to rise all the way out of the receiver. It rotates a complete 45 degrees without stopping at all. It is absolute fucking bullshit because this is going to be the 5th time I have sent this lower back to them and I am tired of it. I am really fucking tired of out of spec ar parts. How fucking hard is it to stick with the basics and the original specs? I have no idea why manufactures think its cool to try and re invent the fucking wheel with every god damn thing...thanks for listening, I had to get that out..
