I just finished a build, went and shot 40 rounds through it with no problems about a week ago. Went to range today, cartridge from second round wouldn't come out of the chamber. Cleared the following round and took the magazine out and the spent cartridge was stuck in the chamber. Tried using the mortaring method to remove without success. Finally was able to put some lube in the chamber and push it out with a cleaning rod through the end if the barrel when I got home. I loaded a magazine and tried to manually rack through it to see if it would feed. I revoked through a few rounds and another one got stuck. This time I was able to use the mortaring method to clear it. I then started the process over and had the same thing happen. I then took the rifle apart, lubed it up and then was able to manually rack rounds through it without any getting stuck. I wasn't at the range so I haven't shot any rounds through it to see if I have any issues. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this?

I would start with ammo, use factory non -wolf, etc and try and solve one problem.  If its bad ammo or out of spec, check that first, including reloads.  If you have access to a case gauge. that also would help.

Then I would polish the feed ramps and chamber and see if that helps.

All of the ammo used was steel case. I'm going to switch to brass. Just wanted to see if I should consider any other issues too. Thanks for the reply.

The upper came from red x arms and the bcg came from aim surplus

DeltaHelo, go buy a chamber brush, and learn now to use it.

sounds like you need to clean your chamber\lube it up.

Thanks for the replies! So other than crappy ammo, brushing and lube, anything else I should be concerned about?

New guns tend to be tight , steel case stuff tends to be dirty because the steel doesn't seal as well as brass and most steel is loaded lighter than
full tilt brass cased 5.56.Lots of stuff working against you

Set any steel cased stuff on the shelf, scrub the heck out of your chamber , lube properly and use some full power brass cased 5.56 ammo and everything will likely be cool .

Some guns never get to the point where they function well with steel but most are fine with it after they are broken in . Always clean the chamber after shooting steel before going back to brass.

I am not a big fan of folks cambering live ammo to "test" their guns . Yeah I realise there is some need and of course a necessity for self defence uses but there is some risk without a safe backstop. I don't know the OP's situation but still would like to caution folks
