I just finished my first build of a lower AR 556, i used a spikes lower with a
palmetto state armory parts kit with magpul furniture. 2 out of the ten rounds Had a failure to feed problem it looked like the bullet hit the feed ram pand pushed the actual bullet into the casing. The upper is a factory built armalite 556. I haven't had time to runanymore round through it but my first thought was the buffer spring was too strong. Any suggestions? |

Are you using reloads by chance? |

Post a pic of the jam, as well as the feed ramps and the mag release button. Quoted:
I did not build the upper it is a factory armalite, I only have one 10 round mag, the evil empire limits me to 10. More are coming. I'm not aware if i installed the mag release corectly. |

magazine release will install only one way.... the threads "should" be even with the end of the release button.... usually gives proper tension on the spring. Yep, and if you find that the catch is a half thread in or out of being flush, then the mag release button just needs to be rotated 180* and the catch reinstalled. As for spinning the catch to thread it in or out, just shove the mag release button all the way in with a pencil, which will protude the other catch side out to spin it away from the receiver. |

The mag catch needs to be threaded in more, and you want the end of the end of threads flush with the button.
As stated, push the mag catch button all the way in, which will protrude the catch on the other side far enough away from the receiver that you can thread it in another wind or two. Also, if you find that the catch is either short or proud by a half turn, spin the catch out on the non ejection side of the receiver, spin the button 180* in the channel for it to index it threads 180*, then thread the catch back in so the face of the catch threaded section is flush with the face of the mag release button. As for the 10 round mags (yes, we already know that they suck big time) at least pull them apart to CLP clean them, and give the followers a once over to clean up a casting lines on the skirts that may be causing the followers to bind in the body. At least this will weed out any follower problems with the mags, but if forced to use these, then you may have to tweak the mag spring, and even correctly form the feed lips as well. |
