I bought a Bushmaster AR that has probably been shot 10 times. The owner said it wouldn't cycle. I took the upper off and the trigger looks like it may have been replaced?? It has a green spring on the hammer? Is that standard for Bushmaster? The trigger will work properly if I remove the safety but it has to come up about half way into the hole when viewed from the side. The front pin seems to want to walk out also which makes me think the assembly might be wrong?  I don't see any adjustment screws on the trigger mechanism.  Any ideas??  Thanks.

The front pin?  You're referring to the hammer pin?

Correct. It is the hammer pin.

Does the bolt stick open and not go forward? Try cycling the action with the safety on, then safety off. It it won't cycle with the safety on, the hammer may be riding on the sear and binding

Can you post a pic of the lower showing the fire control group?

We are all over the map on this one.

The cycle part has nothing to do with the FCG, but is either lack of cleaning/lubing, or something wrong with the gas system (leak somewhere, and since this is a bushmaster, would bank that the problem is a loose carrier key).

On the Fire control group, are you sure that the parts are correctly installed to begin with?

Disco spring large coil side down into the trigger slot,
Hammer spring with the leg coils coming back from the bottom, then seated on top of the trigger pin.
Hammer has a J spring, so this spring should be retaining the hammer spring.

As Dano said, the hammer has a "J" spring that keeps the hammer pin from walking out.

I'd say someone has done some shade tree smithing.  Try to find a replacement FCG, and replace it all.

Thanks for the help guys. I replaced the trigger with a stock model I had laying around and it works fine. Appears the trigger that the previous owner put in was the wrong model for a Bushmaster?? Can't find any markings or models on it but it was hitting on the safety and wouldnt fire or reset. Thanks again.
