So I took the AR to the range yesterday & shot about 30 rounds when the gun failed to extract the spent round. I could get maybe 5 rounds down range before the new round would slam into the enpty case. I tried loading a single round and it did not extract the old round out. Any ideas on where to start looking?
Thanks Norm |

I did this and it worked....for the extraction. Now it extracts the spent case but does not feed to next round. Don't mean to hijack the thread but what would cause this? I tried a brand new pmag...same problem. Tried different ammo...same problem. Thanks, Matt |

It gets chaotic when everyone jumps in with their own problems. |

Yes it did & I could let it slam shut and pull the empty brass out. OK, I wanted to see if you were cycling fully and you are. You're using weak ammo so you're timing probably isn't an issue. So, like the others said an extractor upgrade kit would probably fix it. It will come with an extra power 5 wrap spring, black insert and O-ring. Use the spring and insert, but hold off on the O-ring until you test. The BCM spring is hell-for-stout and you most often do not need the O-ring. BCM extractor upgrade |

Problem solved ,I picked up a new bolt from R Guns for $40.00.
The pin on it is like the old one that is peened you can not push it through fron eather side. They had the kit with the pins springs & extractor for $15.00. I can tell by the spring tension on the new bolt that this was probably the problem. Anyhow Thanks for the help! Get out and shoot |

No old rig like the user. I tryed to just load a single round & fired it . Fired fine but did not eject the spent brass. I just finished cleaning it and every thing looks OK Did you use a chamber brush to fully clean the chamber walls, or is there so much crap still in the chamber that you could use the chamber wall to polish a diamond? Try cleaning the chamber with a chamber brush by hand with CLP to really get the chamber clean. When you think that you have it clean, put a few drops of CLP on a 30 cal mop and using a drill, push the mop in the chamber while spinning for a couple of deep plunges, and see if the mop comes back out clean or black. I black, break out the chamber brush again, since you suck at clean the chamber and completely missed cleaning the last of the chamber cut (read with this end of chamber packed with crap, makes the ammo act like it is over pressured, and causes the hard extraction pull as well. Lastly, short of the bore that will need a copper solvent, such as Sweets, to clean, the rest of the rifle needs to be cleaned with CLP. If you need a source for CLP, BreakfreeCLP in the large 16oz spray can is the best deal going. Sweets is in a black plastic bottle, and unlike Hoppes that leave behind a residue that just collet fouling and chokes the rifle out, it will not. So because of this, clean the bore first with Sweets, then the chamber via chamber brush with CLP, and the rest of the the rifle with CLP as well. Note: CLP has a cleaning agent in it, and will clean the rifle, even when you are shooting it (think of cleaning the rifle as just changing the oil from dirty to clean). If then, the rifle will still not extract the spent case correctly on a single load and fire, then it's time to upgrade the extractor spring to something with a bit more tension so the extractor does not slip off the spent case rim. Also, you have pulled the extractor off the bolt to clean it and the extractor channel, and the problem is not just that you have Brass scrapping so packed in the bolt extractor channel that the extractor can not return home correctly? http://www.ep.tc/problems/25/index.html P.S. LSA is the old cleaner/lube used on the M-16's, and the current cleaner/lube is CLP instead. |
