Background:
The 10.5 inch barrel SBR has a short stroke issue. The weapon will not extract a spent round and feed in a new cartridge. It will function normally when fitted with a .30 cal suppressor. With the suppressor the weapon cycles without an issue. The RRA lower has a Spikes Tactical ST-2 buffer and carbine spring. The other day I put a 5.56 can on the rifle. I shot one round and felt something strike me in the cheek, I assumed it was blow back from the can. Once again the rifle would not cycle. I manually ejected and recharged the rifle and fired another round, again it did not cycle. I cleared the rifle and broke it open to find that the key way bolts had sheared. Any theories on the issue(s). Too little then too much gas is my best guess. I have some other buffer options. Thanks. |

It's possible they were over torqued and cracked causing a gas leak at the key to carrier mating and the short stroking problem to begin with. The extra back pressure from the suppressor cycled the rifle but may have just finished them off. I'd get a new carrier and/or key screws and see what happens before changing buffers out. |

Bolts loosened up, thats why you were having short stroking issues to begin with.
Loose bolts will break at some point, and they did. I wouldn't worry about why they broke at the time they broke. Or they were overtorqued and partially sheared as in the previous reply. New bolts, torqued properly along with the gasket seal on the key, lightly staked, and you're back in operation. |
