Hey guys, doing my first build here and I have ran into a problem. When I go to insert the safety selector switch into the side of the reciever it is hitting the trigger assembly. I have tried taking the entire assembly apart and reinstalling but still the same problem. All parts are from PSA and are MIL spec.

Thank you so much for the help,

Normal,

The bottom lob of the hammer cams the back of the trigger upwards to prevent the selector from being set to safe when the hammer is not cocked.

So that note, cock the hammer back, and you will have solved your problem.

It still sticks up a little after releasing the hammer, which blocks the selector from going all the way in. I know a little bit about an AR, just my first time building a lower so it's just got me stumped on what I did wrong.. I'll keep trying man thanks for your help.

By the way, the first picture of the reciever is when the hammer is cocked.

I can only put the selector in to this point

Try removing the hammer, install the safety, then install the hammer.

Uh..
it looks like you installed the hammer before the trigger... are your hammer spring legs under your trigger pin, rubbing the lower surface???

this could be part of the problem...

I saw that, but it looks like he corrected it in his last picture....
But even with the hammer spring tails under the trigger, the safety selector should go in if all else is OK.
The hammer is riding awfully low in the first picture also.
It just looks,,,,,odd.

agree it may have been corrected, but it needed to be mentioned...

i had a 'slight' issue like this on a Barnes Lower with a PSA LPK... but i found if I manipulated the fire control group (trigger, hammer)
by moving them around when trying to install the selector, the rear trigger bar would move out of the way...

I just don't recall the combination of manipulations i used...
it passed all safety/function tests afterwards and has given no issues so far.

Short version.

Install the selector first, then the trigger with disco second, then the hammer.

You may have a Mil-Spec trigger group that is not truly in Mil-Spec.  I had this same condition on a build a few months ago and it turned out to be a bad hammer.  I replaced the hammer and everthing worked fine afterwards, But try this first remove just the hammer form the lower and try and install the saftey.  If it goes in freely then I'd try a diffrent hammer.  If it still binds with the hammer removed I'd opt for a new trigger.  It should not be like that, and making it work is not something that you want to do, you need to locate the problem and get it fixed.

The two ways to install the selector are to either install the selector first, OR install the trigger and hammer, cock the hammer, then slide the selector in.  Don't forget that you can jiggle the selector and rotate it, it doesn't have to slide straight in.

If your selector is a little sloppy, take a file to the pointy end of the selector detent, and make a little less pointy.  Don't take a lot off at a time.
