Happy New Year. I have a problem with my AR and hope that someone can help. When I use the bolt release to chamber the round and then press the trigger the trigger clicks like normal, but the firing pin doesn't strike the primer, no marks on the primer. If I use the charging handle or during firing when the round is chambered by the rifle everything is fine. Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening? it sounds like the bolt doesn't move all the way in the carrier, so that the firing pin doesn't go out enough, but what would cause this to happen and only when using bolt release?
Thanks, Alex. |

Yep. bolt is not fully locking up.
Best guess would be Low feeding (check the front of the receiver just below the feed ramps for bullet tip strikes) that could be either coming from a bad/dirty mag (yes, even new mags need to pulled down and cleaned, and on that subject, some of the 10 rounds are nothing but problems in themselves as well), Bullet button not threaded in far enough to so the mag is retained in the well correctly. Burs on either the end of buffer spring coils,or buffer roll pin binding on the spring coils, or even the buffer parts not lubed. Hammer catching on the firing pin stop collar on the way forward, and slowing the cycle (see if the firing pin retaining pin is bent.mar'd to hell). A weak recoil spring, Barrel extension not indexed correctly and the bolt lugs to barrel extension lugs binding (check the center of the feed ramps to make sure that they are centered on the front take down lug) Or chances are just the upper bearing areas not correctly CLP lubed for break in. |
