Just about done with my first build. I noticed that I can only engage the safety when the hammer is cocked. Shouldn't I be able to put the gun to safe even if the hammer is not cocked?
Any help is appreciated! |

Bottom lob of the hammer is oblong, and when the hammer is uncocked, it cams the trigger front down against that lob just enough that the back of the trigger blocks the selector from going into safe.
When you cock the hammer, the hammer mates into the hammer sear, with the front of the hammer rising (lowers the back of the trigger), and allows the selector to clear the back of the trigger tail, so the selector can be set to safe. |
