I know its hitting the deflector and denting the shell.

it's a  CHF 16" carbine length upper.

standard buffer big dent 1 to 2 oclock
With H buffer big dent.ejects at 2 oclock
Add Quarter spacer behind buffer spring H buffer it's better  still at 2 oclock, go to 2 quarters it wont lock open on last round and still has dent.
With one quarter and h3 buffer still has small dent but ejects from 2 to 5 oclock.

Seems the best with one quarter behind buffer spring and H buffer but still has dented shells?

tried 2 different BGC makes no diff.

Any ideas. My 14.5 frankin gun lays all shells at 3 oclock with clean undented brass.

See about retiming your receiver extension (buffer tube), needs to tighten one more turn. May have to file the fit between tube and buffer detent to get it right. That may get you out of putting spacers behind the buffer spring.

Are you using an o ring behind the extractor? If so, dump it as you are getting plenty of extraction.

Maybe then try adding a small square of Velcro to the brass deflector to soften the strike of the brass.....

Any way you slice it, the brass dented at the case mouth will iron out and be o.k. when you run it through a sizing die to reload.

Correcting the buffer tube length will probably make the biggest difference,,,

dents are normal will ironout when you resize the brass for reloading. no biggie at all.

As long as the face of the bolt is in front of the ejection port back edge when you pull the charging handle all the way back, you don not need to add anything to the back of the receiver extension tube.

The Velcro trick works great on the deflector, but at stated, the mouth of the round getting dented off the ejector is normal, and will iron right back to size on sizing.
