I've got a DDM4 V5. Mid Length gas system. This is a my first AR and I've noticed some brown coloring around the gas block on the front. I'm not sure if this is normal or not? D.D has a good warranty and is this something worth sending back? No mechanical issues or failures. Probably has 600 rds through it.  Thanks for the help!!

If the rifle is not short stroking, you don't have a problem.

Okay. Thanks. Is this a common issue for some rifles?

Yup.

Pretty much any DI rifle is going to leak a little out of the gas block.

When I first built my gun, I noticed a lot of brown fouling on the barrel behind the gas block. After my gun reached the ~300 round count, my weapon stopped functioning. The gas system wasn't working and my AR15 became a bolt-action rifle. I ended up taking the entire upper assembly apart and reassembling it. I paid special attention to securing my gas block properly (I have a YHM set-screw mounted low-profile gas block).

I've reached 1000 on my rounds count and I see no more brown fouling and I haven't had a single malfunction. Most of what I've shot through my gun is Wolf WPA.

Just wanted to share my experience with the brown fouling. Hopefully, you won't encounter the same issues I had.

Cheers :)
