I was trying to zero my Spikes 14.5 middy, with DDA1.5 fixed rear sight. By the time I got my sights close, the front post had been cranked all the way down. I Dont have any more room to raise my POI. I checked to make sure I was using a proper sight picture, and inspected my rear sight to make sure it was mounted correctly. I seem to be shooting low.

I am using the larger aperture at 50m, its an F marked FSB. Are my eyes that bad?
More practice?

Is there a possibility that a +.040 front post has been installed.  The +.040 post measures .825 OAL.

Hmmm, I will try small aperture.

I dont know about the post length, I should ask Spikes...or remove it and measure it with a caliper.

Grind the post down shorter if necessary.

That would work.
Until he decides to get to a actual range

I put 90 rnds thru it on an "actual range". I had trouble getting elevation up.

Getting to a range for further testing is PIA in CT. Nearest range is 45 minutes away, and $30 for a week day if I can get it off. Weekends are $30 an hour. You cant just walk into the woods around here and shoot shit.

I took post out(per Tom's recommendation) and found metal shaving and machine oil. I cleaned it up and was able to click it down more. It still seems low in the base, but if i get it where it needs to be who cares.  I fired 6 different manufactures ammo, no more than 20 rndsof any one. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Again, I'm sure much of it is me and practice. My eyes aint what they used to be, and I haven't shot much since selling my first rifle and separating 16 yrs ago. I was damn good with all my service weapons back when I was a yute...

Edit to remove hyper sensitive wise cracks. I keep forgetting its the internet and not real life. CG

Thanks, I had read both threads already. All I do is read. I should shoot more.

Its definitely an F marked FSB. Obviously the longer post is not my issue. I'm praying that its not a BCE related issue, like they drilled too deep for the pinning. JoJo's is a pretty reputable gunsmith, they did the pin and  weld. I haven't seen any chipping or copper deposits on the BCE, tho any thing is possible at 2500fps.

Hey, I need to shoot it more> I was able to get the post lower so time to try the zero again. My scope rings are due any day now, so that will be an interesting procedure...

And I'll stick with one cartridge weight/manufacturer.

Just got back from the range. I stuck with 75g TAP training. I modified my sight picture. I went to the small aperture. I was dead nuts zeroed in 20nds. The sight post actually had to come up 6 clicks. YEAH!!! Thanks for all the input.

I was definitely more comfortable shooting today. The rifle  feels more natural to me. Practice is not to be discounted at all.

The rifle loves 75g HP. I fired some Hornady 55g SP, and it had a much larger spread. Then I pushed some Wolf 55g Hp, and, believe it or not, I got the best group of the day. It was 4-5" high of my zero, but the 10 rnd group was in a 3" circle.

All at 50 yrds.

The guy next to me was an old timer, firing a scoped Ruger lever action in 223. He bought a box of Wolf from the proshop. He was all over the place with it, 10 rnds. It actually wouldn't feed properly after the first 5 rnds. He gave me the other 10 and I gave him 10 of my Hornady 55g SP. We both shot them tight!

HOT AS HELL AT BTR< 95 degrees!

Next: Scope Zero.
