Ok, i have a preban Olympic arms lower and im using a DPMS bolt catch.  When I compare it with my DPMS lower which also has a DPMS bolt catch, it seems the Olympic's bolt catch is loose.  Loose enough that it will not hold the bolt back.  It will, only if you force hold the catch with your fingure, but once you let it go, it will not hold.   I cut a few coils off the spring to see if that helps, but it doesnt.

Is there a bolt that would be thicker I could buy?

This is so frustrating , that lower cost me a lot.  Please help??

Sounds like the lower receiver is out of spec if the bolt catch is fitting loose. you might try to find another catch, if it is also loose, get another lower unless you're in a ban state.

In before the Only hate fans, who've probably never seen one.

Too bad, is the lower cast or forged?  Why did you feel the need to replace the BC?
Cutting the sprig will lessen the tension on the BC.

Thicker bolt.  I have no idea

You mention that it engages when pushed up by finger pressure, but lets the bolt go forward easily.....

The bolt catch pivots upwards in the milled slot in the lower receiver. If the slot is not machined deep enough, your bolt catch could be hitting the bottom of the slot, preventing full upwards movement. It has enough room to slightly engage, but not enough to really do the job right.

The cheapest way to "fix" that problem is to remove the bolt catch. Slightly grind/file the bottom of the bolt catch so that it has enough room to pivot and do its job. Frequently check the fit to see when to stop. Use a punch placed through the receiver portions to temporarily hold the bolt catch in place for testing.

Replace the spring with the proper length so that the bolt catch does not bounce around and hold open when rounds are still being fired from the magazine. That spring keeps it out of the way until the bolt catch is pushed upwards by the magazine follower.

Purchase a Colt bolt catch from Brownells. They are more expensive than other bolt catches, but you will know it is made to proper size/specs.

Also look here if nothing else is helping.....

Forged.   it was a stripped lower.  And I cut the spring to , with hope, see if it was the spring being too tense or to see if it might be the hole it goes in being too shallow.

Im going to try the grinding tomorrow when i get home from work.  I thought about what you said and figured I would try something odd.
I used a black paint marker and covered all the spots on the BC where I thought it might be catching. After the paint dried ,  I then put the spring/pin and BC back in and used a punch to hold it in.
I figured that I would see the paint come off at the points that are catching.  it worked.  The part that took the black off was the edge below where the pin rubs.   Odd, but workable I guess.

I would do this now, but i live in an apartment.  I will do this tomorrow though.  I hope it works.

Thanks

Ok.  I left work early because the day was dragging because I wanted to get home and do this so bad.  So, I started with the spinghole.  I got a pipe brush just to clean it out and the pipe brush got stuck on something.  When I pulled it out, half a spring came out too, about 4 coils of springs.  I got excited , double checked to make sure it was cleaned out, put a new spring in, put everything back together (using the punch as the roll pin just in case like you said) and it worked as if it were new.  THANK GOD!!!!   Thank you all for your help with this crazy issue.  I need to inspect things much closer next time.
