I had a round that got stuck in the rifle. Gunsmith soaked it for a day or 2, made a steel rod, but it down the barrell and tapped the round back out. However, now the bolt sticks. You can pull it all the way back, but it will stick. All you ave to do to get it to go back forward is just tap the butt of the rifle a little bit, so it isn't sticking bad. But it is sticking enough that when you fire a round, the bolt sticks back. You tap it, it goes back forward, you fire a round, it sticks back, etc.
I took it back to the gunsmith and he said the only thing he saw was a little burr in the metal, so he polished it out. However, it still sticks. Any ideas what could be causing this? BTW< this only happened since he tapped that round out, or perhaps when the round stuck. Either way, previously this has never happened. ETA: I took the bolt and charging handle out of a different rifle and tried it. Same results, still sticks. |

Shotgun the upper receiver open, and compare the center of the feed ramps against the center of the front take down lug.
Could be that the barrel was removed from the upper receiver, and when reinstalled, the barrel slipped in the upper barrel socket and now the lugs are not matting up. Or, could just be that the gas tube was pulled/bent, and it no longer aligns with the key. To check this out, install the carrier alone (no bolt) in the upper receiver, push it so it's tight against the face of the barrel extension, and using your finger inside the back of the carrrier, pull back on it. If the carrier alone has problems even before the last inch of when the gas tube enters the key, then the upper receiver sides at the key slot has been bent inwards. If just the last inch before the front of the carrier touches the face of the barrel extension, then it's the gas tube that needs to be realigned (pull the hand guards and tweak the gas tube above the barrel to get it to align with the key). |

If by mortor you mean bang the shit out of it butt first on a table, then yes, yes I did. Also, I took the upper off and put it on a different lower and it works just fine. However, the rifle in question is an M4 type, the lower I put it on is an A2 type, I don't know if the different butts make any difference or not. Is the reciver extension the buffer tube? |

"bent receiver extension."
Bent lower reciever BUFFER tube! there is that clear enough. Of course the upper in question will work on an A2 lower setup. The carrier is hanging in the buffer tube that you slammed the shit out of, if we understand your discription. |

Yup, the receiver extension is the buffer tube. Generally, a 16" upper will work on an A2 lower and a 20" upper will work on an M4 lower. For a collapsible stock, replace your fubar receiver extension with one of these. P.S. Find a new gunsmith. |
