This was the first time I checked headspace in a Bushmaster.308 BAR10, I was using a .308 go and nogo,I took off the ejector and put the gauge on the bolt, lightly pushed forward and it locked on the go gauge, then used to nogo, the bolt would not lock up, is this correct? The nogo did not come close to locking,and the go went on easy, am I ok with this? Also the reason I was doing this, Bushmaster sent me replacement bolts to replace the original that was prone to breakage, this was one of the rifles that was made by RRA for bushmaster.The bolts they sent me were the new style DPMS bolts, they are dimensionally the same, the extractors are different, Bushmaster told me to headspace them before I use them

Your bolt/chamber is in spec. Some rifles will accept a no-go which is usually ok. Rifles that accept a field gauge are dangerously close or over max spec. Most gauge manufacturers use different gauge dimensions, so it would be a good idea to check yours just to know the numbers. As for your procedure, removing the ejector and measuring a clean chamber is exactly what you want to do. |

| Not to add fuel to the fire but I have asked questions too because using the search, I got no hits. I must be doing something wrong because just for fun, I did a search under "headspace", "checking headspace" and "headspace gage" and got no hits... What terms you search with? |

It may be a limited search feature with the free membership. I don't know,,,,the member search feature goes over three months in the past..... The headspace check sounds spot on for what was done. Your gauge set worked correctly and gave you the readings you need to ensure the replacement bolt is properly sized and meets safe requirements for firing. |

I answered your question! If the bolt closes on the the "go" gauge it's good the gauge worked as designed, if the bolt does not close on the "no go" that is as it should be for proper head spacing. No rocket science required for that procedure! And yes this subject is a "dead horse". Since "Bushmaster" (once made by RRA  , as you claim) sent you "new style" DPMS bolts I was curious if they were MP stamped. I believe these bolts are made by Toolcraft, but you probably knew that. If the bolts are not MP tested the lug will be just as prone to lug breakage as the old Bushmaster (RRA?) bolts.
