I have a bushmaster AR-15; about 10 years old....never any problems until about 3-years ago when it started basically ramming rounds into the upper receiver instead of putting them in the chamber. not sure if I'm using correct terminology and I have cleaned it and even had it visually inspected by a gunsmith. Any help would be appreciated. Pics of what it is doing are available.
Thanks. |

Short stroking can cause such, but if the round are feeding low/high or multi live rounds being feed out of the mag, chances are that it's the mag at fault.
To check for short stroking, load only a single round into a mag, insert and charge that round, then fire for effect with the empty mag still in the rifle. If the rifle is stroking correctly, the bolt will lock back on the bolt catch. If such does not happen and you do have a Bushmaster, then check the carrier key allen bolt so confirm that they are still tight (37in lbs), nor one has snapped/sheared. P.S.
